Brian Jackman, guest of Journeys by Design, hits the road in South Africa.

Tracking a lion through the Kalahari can take all day, ‘but the experience’, Brian tells us, ‘is worth every spine tingling second.’ Guest at Nicky Oppenheimer’s private reserve, Tswalu, which is part of the Greater Kalahari ecosystem, the largest in South Africa, Brian stays at both luxury lodges, Tarkuni and Motse, both a five-star oasis of food and comforts each in their own rights, but complementing each other marvellously. Spotting some of the lesser-known tick list species, such as caracals, pangolin and even an aardvark, Brian writes that it happened that the time of year he visited after the rains, had, despite it being one of the harshest places on earth, made the reserve momentarily into ‘an emerald desert, lit with crimson flowers’.

For more information on Tswalu or to enquire about planning a classic luxury African safari experience, incorporating the Twalu Kalahari, please do get in touch and one of our destination specialists would be happy to begin the conversation.
