Overview
The main reception at the Strand Hotel is bright and airy, with views across the Atlantic Ocean through the large, glass wall in the lobby. The Strand Hotel has 125 rooms many with superb sea views and the hotel includes three restaurants, two bars, a deli, lobby-lounge, sea-facing terraces and a beach kiosk all set on the Mole, and so surrounded by ocean on three sides. The Atlantic Spa offers crystal steam rooms, rain showers, a garden terrace and a relaxation lounge. There is also a well-equipped gym. Free Wi-Fi is provided throughout.
Food & service
The Strand Hotel offers a wide selection of places to eat and drink. Welwitschia Lounge, just off the lobby, serves cocktails and teas and coffees with light snacks, while outdoors Café Mole offers a soda fountain and beach takeaway, with stunning views of the Mole and the Atlantic Ocean. The Ocean Cellar is a high-end seafood restaurant, wine and oyster bar with a sushi and sashimi kitchen and eat-at counter. The Farmhouse Deli is a bistro-style restaurant and coffee house with a bakery, patisserie, charcuterie, fromagerie and sea-facing terrace. The Brewer & Butcher is a micro-brewery, restaurant and bar with a sea-facing terrace and beer garden, specialising in Namibian and German dishes with craft beer from the Swakopmund Brewing Company’s on site micro-brewery.
Rooms
Rooms are standard or luxury, with suites either junior, luxury or presidential. All rooms include an en suite bathroom, tea and coffee station, mini bar, LCD satellite TV, safe, free Wi-Fi, telephone and air-conditioning. Most rooms and suites are painted blue with soft furnishings in reds and browns and black-and-white photos hang on the walls. The luxury rooms and suites have their own balconies, with beach or sea views, whilst all suites have an open-plan lounge and separate bedroom, with the luxury and presidential suites having the benefit of their own dining area too. Many rooms can accommodate families and some are also wheelchair accessible.
Activities
The Strand Activities and Adventures Office, staffed by professional travel consultants, helps guests plan trips in Swakopmund, Walvis Bay, the Southern Atlantic coastline and neighbouring Namib Desert. Activities can include trips to Cape Cross seal colony, fishing trips, Namibia Desert day trips, quad biking, desert night walks, Messum Crater tour or Walvis sightseeing.
