The company of wolves

Mike Carter spends time at Bishangari on the shores of Lake Langano and then tracking the Ethiopian wolf staying at Bale Mountains Lodge.

Trying to complete a luxury two-lodge circuit in the South, Mike tells of the Anubis baboons encountered on the way to the pool at Bishangari, a lodge that our very own Will Jones, founder and MD of JbD, helped build in the 90s and then his time at Bale Mountains Lodge. This 18-room luxury eco-lodge was the brain child of ex British army officer Guy Levine and was a labour of love. It is set in the heart of the Bale Mountains, home to the Ethiopian wolf, the rarest canid on earth of which only ~450 are left. ‘My heart stopped. It was one of the most stunning creatures I had ever seen.’
