Not to be confused with its namesake in Kenya, Onguma The Fort is located in north-eastern Namibia, alongside the eastern border of Etosha National Park, in the Onguma Private Nature Reserve.
Overview
Surrounded almost exclusively – in terms of tree cover – by camelthorn, and by the reserve’s open plains, The Fort is a stone build characterised by red-brown walls, a tower and Arabesque water features, courtyards and oversized doorways. Very traditional with regards to its exteriors, it consists of a main area and 13 suites.
Food & service
The shared areas include a lounge, dining area and bar. The service at Onguma The Fort is personal- guests are met with cold towels and scented water, briefed and shown to their rooms – and the food is delicious, the menu varied.
Rooms
The suites, which in the main lie either side of the tower, are large, beautifully appointed and private. Each includes a double bed, extensive decking, a lounge area and a separate bathroom. The bedroom opens out onto the plains, with floor-to-ceiling windows providing both light and a view from the bed, while at night the room is warmed by an open log fire. Tastefully decorated, the suites are marked by polished stone floors, the occasional rug, wicker seating and a beige colour scheme. The bathroom has an indoor and outdoor shower facility, sink and flush toilet.
