A small and beautiful Relais & Chateaux property, Ellerman House is located in Cape Town, on Kloof Rd, in the Bantry Bay area.
Overview
Built by shipping magnate Sir John Ellerman, in the style of a small country manor, and converted by its most recent owner into a first class luxury hotel, Ellerman House consists of a main house and 11 suites. The shared areas include a bar, library, restaurant, multiple lounges, a terraced garden, spa and swimming pool. Known for housing one of Cape Town’s finest collections of South African art, paintings adorn the walls and sculptures are spotted throughout the property. Original features are retained, including internal wooden columns, fireplaces and the huge arched doorways.
Food & service
The food is excellent, the wine cellar famous, and the bar – with its granite features – a major pull.
Rooms
Of the 11 rooms, 2 are suites, the majority sea facing, and only one is without a balcony. Each of the rooms comes with a double bed, seating and en-suite bathroom. The rooms are individually decorated, but generally the design is period, with the art providing a contemporary counterpoint. The suites come with separate dining rooms. Some of the rooms have separate lounges. Comfortable, wonderfully serviced, the standard of room – from its smallest to its largest – is wonderful. Please note that the spa also offers accommodation, as does Ellerman Villa.
Activities
Activities at Ellerman House include spa, swimming and trips onto Kloof rd, down to the bay and into the city centre.
