Nambwa Tented Lodge is a tented facility in Namibia’s Bwabwata National Park. To call it ‘tented’, however, is something of a misnomer. The tents here are more akin to luxury suites, and the whole facility offers a luxurious vantage point from which to enjoy the views over the remarkable local landscape and wildlife.
Overview
Nambwa Tented Lodge is built into the forest along the banks of a tributary of the Kwando river in Bwabwata’s Mashi Conservancy, sufficiently high and inconspicuous that wildlife including elephant can roam freely underneath the lengths of wooden walkway that connect the tented suites to the lodge’s main areas. Those main areas offer a stylish dining area with a long table for communal meals and attractive high-backed chairs; a bar that serves drinks all day; a comfortable lounge with arm-chairs and a selection of decorations including artefacts salvaged from this one-time military site; and a large deck with sun-loungers and a recessed firepit. There is also a small pool. Throughout the décor is comfortable and understated, and there is Wi-Fi throughout the main area.
Food & service
The flexible kitchen prepares high-quality cuisine. The fare is unpretentious yet tasty, including a three-course dinner and a good choice of drinks. Service is efficient and friendly, and meals can either be taken communally or at separate tables.
Rooms
There are ten tented suites at Nambwa. Each has a double-bed, a small lounge with sofa and armchairs, and en suite facilities that include double-basins, a bath and shower, a large mirror and a flush-toilet. Throughout the ambience is sophisticated and modern, accented by open woods and touches of local colour. There is a nice selection of toiletries and complimentary sherry. Each suite also has a deck with lounge chairs from which to enjoy the private views.
Activities
Activities at Nambwa include game drives, guided bush walks and boat trips. Worth noting, as well, is that a wealth of wildlife can be viewed from the lodge itself.
