Located in Zakouma National Park and offering an intimate and bespoke experience of one of the last Central African savannah ecosystems, Camp Nomade is a seasonal and first-class mobile camp.
Overview
Operating only between mid-December and mid-April (the peak of the dry season), Camp Nomade is modelled on after the Sahel region’s traditional nomadic camps, its distinctive ambience drawn from vivid and colourful local textiles and metalwork. The large communal tent strikes a balance between atmospheric and totally casual, with inviting rugs scattered with cushions for lounging on for chatting and enjoying a drink while game- or sunset-watching.
Food & service
Both the food and service at Camp Nomade are of a very high standard, the former easily adapted to the requirements of groups and individuals, the latter the perfect host. In the evening’s dinner is served at outside tables carefully positioned for perfect views, with lanterns and an open fire putting the finishing touches to the ambience.
Rooms
There is a maximum of eight tents at Camp Nomade, with a strict limit of eight guests allowed at once. Each tent consists of a large canvas covering with a spacious mosquito-netting-enclosed space beneath, so that guests can enjoy 360-degree views from the comfort of bed. Each individual guest has a dedicated bathroom, screened-off by local high grass fencing, including a bucket shower with hot water.
Activities
Activities offered by Camp Nomade are plentiful, the operation highly nimble and thus able to offer wildlife drives and walks, fly-camping expeditions on the banks of the Salamat River, and – if you’re lucky – time with nomadic peoples as they travel through.
Impact
A proportion of the booking fees go to African Parks, which are used to support the organisation’s conservation efforts and the community-support initiatives on which those efforts rest. These include facilitation of new commercial enterprises to school-building and the development of communication networks.
