Located in Northern Tanzania, in a remote corner of the southern Serengeti, Kusini Tented Camp has a reputation for providing its guests with an experience that is at once luxurious and authentic.
Overview
Designed to complement its environment, and surrounded by enormous free standing rocks, Kusini consists of 12 luxury tents and a shared dining and lounge facility. Characterised by a dark wood floor, an intimate seating area and beautifully laid tables, the shared tent (which boasts Wi-Fi access) is large, spacious and possesses in its sprawling veranda the perfect place from which to view wildlife and at the same time relax, eat and interact with fellow travellers.
Food & service
The service is a perfect balance of friendly and professional, whilst the food is fresh, beautifully presented and delicious; we particularly recommend the breakfast picnic.
Rooms
The en-suite sleeping tents of Kusini are constructed from mixed materials – wood and canvas – and are positioned in such a way as to create a sense of absolute privacy. Each has a veranda, a magnificent double bed, a small dressing area and an en-suite bathroom. The bathroom itself is European in style, and fitted with bowl sinks and ornate taps. With furniture that is well chosen, and as attractive as it is functional, there are few soft furnishings, and the overall design suggests clarity over fluff.
Activities
Activities include 4X4 wildlife drives, rock-top sundowners, bird watching, bush walks, wild picnics and cultural visits.
Too far off the beaten track to ever seem overrun, Kusini is perfectly placed for the migration, and is best visited therefore between January and April. This said, it possesses an abundant resident wildlife population, and is worth visiting most months of the year.
Impact
Conservation
Sanctuary Kusini with the help of its guests are actively involved with the Serengeti Cheetah Project which helps monitor the demographics of the 50-80 cheetah in the area, one of the last few remaining natural ecosystems where cheetah exist in viable numbers. The camp’s location directly in the path of the seasonal cheetah movement makes it ideal to help track this iconic African animal.
