Somalisa Camp occupies a prime position in the east of Hwange National Park. This is one of the richest areas for wildlife in the region and Somalisa very much suits it, being a large, stylish, traditional-style camp.

Overview

Set beneath a sheltering copse of acacia, the main area of Somalisa Camp includes a comfortable lounge, a sizeable communal dining area (though private dining can be provided upon request), a large furnished deck with panoramic views, and a swimming pool.

The swimming pool is a draw for Hwange’s elephants, which are frequently seen at close quarters from the camp itself. The whole area is very welcoming and unassuming.

Food & service

The comfort is fairly unadorned, but with good food and drink available and very helpful staff, it all adds to the feeling of being in the wild.

Rooms

There are six tents in total at Somalisa Camp, two of which have double beds while the other four have twins that can be moved together if necessary. ‘Tents’, of course, is a bit of an understatement: with solid teak floors and A-frame roofs they feel very secure and permanent.

The walls can be rolled back to augment views and breezes but also completely closed behind canvas flaps at night, and there is also a writing table and an en suite bathroom with a flushing toilet and bucket-shower. With crisp white linen, lots of canvas and plentiful varnished dark wood, the accommodation here has a genuinely old-safari feel. Please be aware there is no Wi-Fi or phone service at the camp.

Activities

Activities at Somalisa centre around wildlife drives and guided walks, which are expert and flexible. Please note, given sufficient notice, Somalisa and adjacent sister camp Somalisa Acacia can be booked together to provide accommodation for approximately 20 people.
