Owned by the charismatic Chris Weir, Kensington Place is a delightful boutique hotel at the top of Kloof Road, Higgovale.
Overview
Overlooking The Gardens, the city bowl, waterfront and harbour, Kensington Place is a favourite Journeys by Design haunt, and one of Cape Town‘s finest small hotels.
Food & service
The main dining area, bar and reading patio are colourful and funky, the cuisine carrying a straightforward philosophy: whatever fresh ingredients are available make up the delicious seasonal menus. Returning guests make a point of discussing the excellent service, with little touches such as tea lights and bath salts creating a truly luxurious atmosphere.
Rooms
There are 8 luxury suites, which are tastefully designed and furnished with private balconies and – except for room seven – views of the Atlantic to the west. The gardens are small, but attractive, with a little swimming pool at one end. Neither retiring nor over the top, there is a very fine balance of colour and use of local materials, which works well in this contemporary African setting. Wi-Fi is accessible throughout the hotel.
Activities
From Kensington Place it is very easy to access all the major attractions that Cape Town has to offer, and for driving guests there is secure off-street parking.
