Sanctuary Kichakani Serengeti Camp in Tanzania is semi-mobile camp, sets and strikes camp in three locations, and invites guests to follow wildebeest and zebra as they travel across the Serengeti plains during the annual migration cycle.
Overview
Designed to look like the camps of explorers from the 19th century, Sanctuary Kichakani Serengeti Camp offers 10 luxury tents, which can be packed up and moved to each location. Handcrafted luggage, easy chairs, cabinets and desks are all portable. The camp also has a central canopied main tent which flows into separate lounge and dining wings. The tents can be open on the sides to reveal the views across the Serengeti.
Food & service
Savour international flavours alongside kachumbari (a traditional Tanzanian salsa), coconut beans, paprika, cinnamon, chilli from nearby Zanzibar, conjured up by the kitchen. Evenings can be spent gathered by the traditional fire pit and under starry skies, maybe hearing from the experienced guides or swapping stories. Sundowners are a must on any safari, with all drinks, cocktails and snacks provided at the end of the day.
Rooms
Sanctuary Kichakani Serengeti Camp comes with 10 five-star tents, each with a wooden deck perfect for sitting with a cup of Tanzania’s finest coffee and an en suite bathroom with a bucket shower. A personal tent attendant is available to fill each bucket shower to the perfect temperature whenever needed. Gym and yoga kits are also provided for working out.
Activities
Sanctuary Kichakani Serengeti Camp’s three set locations are based on a natural migration path, offering wildlife viewing from open plains, sweeping grasslands and rocky kopjes. This path follows wildebeest, zebra, Thomson’s gazelles, and the predators they attract. The Serengeti is also known for the Big Five. Guests have the opportunity to witness the behaviour of animals in their natural habitat, but the camp follows a conservationist approach of no direct interaction, with knowledgeable guides leading the experience.
Impact
The temporary camp aims to offer minimal environment impact. Sanctuary Retreats run four philanthropy projects in Tanzania including raising funds for a school for children with special needs and running a conservation education project.
