Morukuru Farm House, set in beautiful grounds on the other side of a mountain from the rest of the Morukuru Family portfolio, is an exclusive-use luxury property in South Africa’s Madikwe Game Reserve.
Overview
Tremendous thought and expense has been put into the design of Morukuru Farm House. Interior design was undertaken by the lauded Sumari Krige and throughout the ambience is stylish and modern, emphasising the work of local artists and craftspeople. The communal areas include a large living room with a bar adjacent, an elegant dining room and a well-equipped kitchen. There is a covered patio and a boma with deck-furniture, as well as a library and private swimming-pool. All the mod-cons are a given, including air-conditioning and Wi-Fi.
Food & service
The service at Morukuru Farm House is first-class. Guests are attended by a team of eight staff, including a butler, chef, private guide and housekeepers. (A nanny service is also included) The wines and other beverages on offer are superb and menus can be designed and adapted to the tastes of any group or individual within it.
Rooms
The accommodations at Morukuru Farm House comprise of five expansive en suite king-size bedrooms, all set around a leafy courtyard and connected to the main areas by a covered walkway. All were designed to the same brief as those main areas, and thus combine modern elegance with a relaxed sense of home. Each offers the kind of comfort and style one would expect from a top-end contemporary boutique hotel. The option of outside bathing/showering is a particular plus.
Activities
Designed to be a space where the whole family can truly relax, Morukuru Farm House is set within a 100-hectare fenced-in safe area in which general wildlife roam. Outside the fence is everything Madikwe has to offer, and guests here have a private guide and wildlife drive vehicle to help them take full advantage of the reserve.
Impact
Conservation
In the spirit of Operation Phoenix – the original landmark wildlife re-introduction and monitoring project that took place in Madikwe from 1992 to 1999 – the owners of Morukuru continue to dedicate their time, staff and other resources towards Parks Board projects such as wildlife collaring, darting, monitoring and relocation initiatives.
Commerce
The Morukuru Goodwill Foundation helps to facilitate activities to improve the social and economic standards of surrounding communities. Furthermore, in an innovative initiative, the community collects and sorts recycled refuse that is then sold to companies which deal commercially in recycled materials.
Community
The lodge is continually looking for creative ways to partner with their local communities in Madikwe; from the dancers who perform at Morukuru to the guests who donate books for the local library, the bonds between lodge and community are always strong.
