Known for his passion for all things wild, for having something of a sixth sense when it comes to finding the hard to find, and for a wonderfully maverick personality, Calvet Nkomo is one of African Bush Camps‘s finest bush guides.
Born and raised in remote Halisupi, south of Bulawayo, in Gwanda, Zimbabwe, Calvet was naturally drawn to guiding from an early age, and started his professional training in 1995. A graduate of one of Africa’s most stringent guide-training regimes, he qualified in 2002, after which he went to work with National Parks, Touch of the Wild, CC Africa, Matetse Game Lodge and Wilderness Safaris before joining African Bush Camps.
As well as being trained to an advanced level in rifle handling and in different aspects of guiding, Calvert is something of an astronomer, photographer and geologist, his knowledge and skill-set is so extensive as to leave all in no doubt of the truth of one of his favourite maxims: You can’t Google the bush.
