Ouidah

Domain de la Palmerai

Explore

Located on the southern outskirts of Ouidah, owner run, and set in the most glorious of gardens, Domaine de la Palmeraie is a rather beautiful boutique hotel.

Overview

A recently restored two-storey colonial house, Domaine de la Palmeraie’s shared area consists of a bar, multiple seating areas, a terrace, a pool, and gardens. Characterised by tiled floors, white and terracota-coloured walls, lightweight seating, the odd antique, and a mix of photographs and original art, the look and feel is decidedly eclectic. If the groundfloor feels a little cavernous, then that is more than compensated for by views out onto the garden and the opportunity to spend most of one’s time around and in the pool. Wi-fi is available; air-con is not.

Food & service

Having only just opened (2023), it’s a little too early to make a definitive call on the quality of Domaine de la Palmeraie’s food and service. That said, the feedback has been unremittingly fine, with guests noting the high standards set by the kitchen and restaurant, the kindness of the staff, and the value for money. Please partake in the cocktails.

Rooms

There are range of rooms standard and family sleeping rooms at Domaine de la Palmeraie. The majority come with double beds and sidetables, a balcony, and en suite bathrooms. Interior design-wise, they could be a little warmer. With views over the garden and pool, rooms at the front of the house are by far the most attractive.

Activities

Activities at Domaine de la Palmeraie include lounging around the pool, walking the house’s gardens, indulging in a healthy mix of pub sports, including pool and darts, and historic and cultural excusions into town, which can be arranged by the hotel. Do note that the Domaine de la Palmeraie is some way away from city centre, so a taxi or zemidjan (motorcycle) is needed to get about.
