Sublime collusion

Charlotte Sinclaire describes Mozambique’s sumptuous developments in the north islands as she visits Ibo Island Lodge, Quilalea and Coral Lodge.

Mozambique is a nation where remnants of its bloody past – colonisation of the Portuguese, the slave trade, the war of independence and the recent civil war – are hard to miss. Even its flag contains an AK-47, only one of two UN member states to contain a firearm on their flag. But dig deeper and the Mozambique little known about, one of white sands, food of the divine, and some of the best coral reefs in the world will become apparent. If anything the crumbling and dilapidated buildings of a time gone by that are common to stumble across complement the beauty of some of the newly developed luxury lodges on the northern parts.
