Located in Victoria Falls – the very first hotel to be constructed there – The Victoria Falls Hotel is a grand and traditional property, and a truly extraordinary stay.

Overview

Built in 1904, embodying the period’s distinctive post-Edwardian style, and expertly renovated in 2013, the Victoria Falls Hotel captures the splendor and pomp of an era long past. Consisting of 161 rooms and suites, 5 bars and restaurants, swimming pools, a business center, fitness center, chapel, and a host of impressive activities, the hotel is – without doubt – one of Zimbabwe’s very finest.

Food & service

The quality and diversity of food at the hotel is outstanding. Stanley’s Terrace offers light meals alongside its famous High Tea experience. Jungle Junction provides delicious African buffets and nightly local entertainment, while the Livingstone Room features a seven-course degustation menu. The fine selection is completed by Poolside (BBQ fare) and Stanley’s Bar, which offers stylish cocktails in an intimate setting. 24 hour room service is also available, and the service from floor to kitchen is unfailingly fine. Please note that a dress code – although relaxed – is in operation at the Livingstone Room.

Rooms

The rooms are unashamedly luxurious, and come in a range of categories: Standard Rooms (64), Central Deluxe Rooms (46), Stables Signature Wing Rooms (42), Honeymoon Suites (2), Wing Deluxe Suites (2), Executive Suites (2), alongside the singular Batoka Suite, Royal Suite and Presidential Suite.

Although all are a fine demonstration of affluence, the Stables Signature Wing Rooms – which boast their own central courtyard and private lounge – would suit a small family. The Standard Rooms come complete with an elegant four-poster twin/double bed, a safe, mini-bar, telephone, and satellite TV. Characterised by silk hangings, wooden and wicker furniture and a classic cream palette, they retain the charm of the past with the amenities of the present. Epitomising this balance between the traditional and modern, complimentary Wi-FI is available across the hotel.

The upgraded suites are much the same, only bigger, and with their own specific benefits. The Central Deluxe Rooms, for instance, offer stunning views of the Batoka Gorge and the Victoria Falls Bridge.

Activities

The hotel’s prime location – just a 10 minute stroll away from one the falls – ensure that access to the Victoria Falls is quick and effortless. Other activities include wildlife drives, safari walks, a wonderfully unique art-safari, and cruises on the Zambezi River. For a proper blast from the past, try the vintage steam train excursions. For those in search of slightly more intense activities, bungee jumping and white water rafting are also exciting possibilities.
