Named after the explorer Dr. David Livingstone’s two Zambian companions, Sussi & Chuma is one of the finest lodging options for travellers visiting the nearby Victoria Falls.
Located just 12km by road from the famous cataracts, and lying within the borders of the Mosi-oa-Tunya National Park, the main lodge consists of 12 luxury tree houses built in amongst giant ebonies and connected by stilted wooden walkways. All rooms of Sussi & Chuma are light, airy, tastefully decorated and come with en suite bathrooms and air conditioning. The tree houses also have their own spacious decks (with views of a fast-flowing stretch of the Zambezi river) and are large enough for sunbathing or intimate dining in the evening.
For a more luxurious and exclusive stay, there are two Chuma houses – each with two bedrooms (both en suite), a spacious lounge, dining area and outdoor decks with fabulous rim flow plunge pools, complete with river views. Both houses come with their own private chef and house staff.
The main lodge building of Sussi & Chuma is constructed over 2 storeys with a lounge and dining area on both levels. The 2nd floor bar has a shaded deck with particularly beautiful views. There are also outdoor dining options at Sussi & Chuma, a superb wine cellar, curio shop, swimming pool and a spa with a range of treatments.
While visiting the Zambian side of the waterfalls is the principle motivation for staying here, there are plenty of other activities on offer. For those looking for the sedate and relaxing there are cultural village tours, game drives, boat safaris, sundowner cruises and elephant back riding. While for fans of the more white-knuckle, there are white water rafting, bungee jumping and heli-flipping.
