Surrounded by tropical forests and the Togo-Atakora mountain range beyond, the much-loved Hotel Parc Residence lies on a rural road two kilometres beyond the laidback historical town of Kpalime in Plateaux Region, in the west of Togo. The hotel’s remote setting makes it the ideal base to explore local nature sites – if only the hotel’s pool wasn’t quite so inviting.
Overview
Located close to the Ghanaian border, near the protected Forest of Missahohoe, Hotel Parc Residence is a collection of several two-storey stone buildings designed and constructed by local Togolese artisans. Eight spacious rooms enjoy wrap-around patios or verandas and are immersed in the hotel’s beautifully tended tropical gardens, at the heart of which is the property’s sizeable swimming pool. The restaurant enjoys a poolside setting, offering both inside and outside dining. Other features include a lounge area and gift shop. WiFI is available throughout.
Food & service
The Hotel Parc Residence staff are laidback, friendly and personable. The hotel restaurant offers a mixture of Togolese and international cuisine, while its salads and vegetarian options come highly rated by travellers – which is of particular note given that the quality of both is known to vary considerably across the region. Seasonal fruit and vegetables are sourced at the local market, as are other goods such as bread and coffee. There are some welcome imports, however, such as the Belgian beer on offer.
Accommodation
Hotel Parc Residence’s eight rooms are either located on the ground floor, which each comes with a large patio and direct access to the hotel gardens, or otherwise first-floor rooms with wrap-around balconies offering spectacular mountain views. There is also the option of the Missahohoe Suite which is slightly larger than the standard rooms, though all are light, spacious, and airy. All also come with a queen-size bed, en suite, desk and chair, air-conditioning, TV and refrigerator. Rooms have a simple yet homely feel to them.
Activities
Lying just two kilometres northwest of Plateaux’s cultural capital, Kpalime, the Hotel Parc Residence provides an ideal base from which to explore the town, while also offering a laidback leafy setting to retreat to afterwards. Various hiking trails can also be found in this section of the Togo-Atakora mountain range, many of which lead to charming streams and waterfalls deep in tropical forests. Sacred woodlands such as the Valley of the Bats of Kuma-Tsame can also be reached from the hotel.
