Converted as recently as 2004 from private residence to boutique hotel, located in Cape Town, in Oranjezicht, Four Rosmead is a first class piece of accommodation.
Built in 1903, and now a classified monument, Four Rosmead is set in a small walled garden and possesses views of Table Mountain, the city and many of Cape Town’s most significant landmarks. Enormously stylish, the garden includes a steel and wood loggia, gravel borders, a small pool and a fish pond, while the house itself is a clean looking 2 story town house, its traditional architectural features complimented by the property’s laidback contemporary interior design. Consisting of a main house and 8 sleeping rooms, Four Rosmead is characterised by smart easy chairs, sofas, low tables and African art (paintings, sculptures), and by an energy that is at once relaxed and enthusiastic. Shared areas include a breakfast room, lounge and spa.
The rooms are divided into 3 classes: deluxe (4), luxury (3) and suite (1). All of varying sizes, each room comes with a double / twin bed and en-suite bathroom. Stylishly put together, a deluxe room includes a table and chair, plasma TV and i-pod docking station. The luxury room is similar, only larger, while the suite, which comes with 2 rooms, is separate from the house. Comfortable and featuring enormous headboards, the beds are a delight, the bathrooms clean, well maintained.
Activities at Four Rosemead include excursions to nearby Kloof Street, to the city centre and to the beach, or further afield to Cape Point and to the wine lands.
