Sophisticated, modern and stylish, Onguma Tented Camp adds some safari chic to a trip to the Etosha National Park.
Overview
Located just 8km – or a 20 minute drive – from the eastern gate, Onguma is set in its very own 20,000 hectare private reserve bordering Fisher’s Pan, and is home to over 30 of the larger animal species including kudu, giraffe, hartebeest, zebra, lion, cheetah, leopard and even a family of black rhino.
Food & service
A restaurant tent serves up a limited menu of good food, including four-course gourmet dinners, while after sunset a fire is lit, with chairs placed around it for nightcaps and swapping travellers’ tales.
Rooms
Meaning ‘the place you don’t want to leave’ in the local language, Onguma boasts four different accommodation options. The intimate Tented Camp consists of 7 luxury en suite tents, each with walk-in showers, stand-alone baths and views of the nearby waterhole. The main part of the lodge features an open-sided, smartly designed lounge (with bamboo ceiling, hide rugs and spacious sofas) as well as a sleek patio (with rim flow pool, sun loungers and umbrellas) and both of these areas also look out over the waterhole.
Activities
The main activities at Onguma Tented Camp centre on the watering hole, which provides some wonderful animal viewing and photographic opportunities, alongside wildlife drives and bird viewing.
