Voted one of Tatler’s Top 101 Hotels in the World, Manafiafy is located on the coast of southeast Madagascar. Sister lodge to Mandrare River Camp, it is a first-rate eco-lodge.
Beautifully positioned, Manafiafy consists of four luxury bungalows and one family villa, all discreetly positioned in amongst the trees at the edge of the forest over-looking the bay. The main communal area is a large permanent wooden structure, with a thatch roof and a large terrace and comfortable deck chairs.
Food and service
The attentiveness of the service at Manafiafy is second to none. Breakfast is usually a continental style buffet with pastries, eggs and cereals, served in the dining room or on private terrace if required. Lunches can be anything from grilled seafood to salads and freshly baked bread. Many of the three-course dinners are oriented around seafood: fresh fish, oysters, mussels and lobster are the norm, all caught locally. Please note that wines and spirits are not included in the cost of itinerary and due to its remote location, Manafiafy are unable to take credit card payments.
All of the guest rooms are permanent wooden structures built with local wood and feature thatch roofs and open fronts leading onto the sandy beach below, the overall look and feel very much a Robinson Crusoe-type experience. Each room includes a super king size bed with mosquito nets, 270-degree windows, a private terrace with deck chairs, and en-suite bathroom with 24-hour electricity and hot running water.
All hot water and electricity at Manafiafy is generated by solar energy, which helps to reduce the camp’s carbon footprint. Levies and park fees contribute towards local infrastructure and schools.
