Located on the hot and dry southwest coast of Madagascar, 60 miles north of the region’s capital, Toliara, Five Senses Lodge is a remote luxury eco-lodge overlooking the Mozambique Channel.

Overview

Made up of seven rooms and a main building, Five Senses is subjected to hot weather all year around. The main building, which contains an open-air kitchen, restaurant and lounge and made from locally supplied materials, faces out to a sandy beach, which can be accessed with ease. The look and feel is that of a Robinson Crusoe adventure. Please note that WiFi is available throughout.

Food & service

The service at Five Senses is second to none, returning guests especially impressed with the level of staff attention. Food here is fusion of Mediterranean and Indian Ocean cuisine and largely based around locally grown produce and freshly caught fish. The bar prides itself on is array of Malagasy, rum-based cocktails.

Rooms

Each of the eight villa suites at Five Senses are placed in such a way as afford both excellent views over the sea and ease of access to the main mess area, and comes with terrace, either king-sized four-poster or twin, a bathroom with shower, and sea-facing outdoors bathtub. The rooms are minimally decorated with wooden floors, clay walls and thatched roof.

Activities

Activities at Five Senses include snorkelling, diving, surfing, dhow trips, whale watching, kite-surfing, guided trips into the deciduous forest, and spa treatments at the lodge.

Impact

Conservation
All power at the lodge is run off solar power. Food and drink is largely sourced locally, thereby reducing the lodge’s carbon footprint.

Community 
The lodge has future plans to set up a foundation that will address the needs of healthcare and education in the community.
