Owned by Eric and Angela Marungi, and situated in Langata, the House of Waine sits on 2.5 acres of manicured garden, and offers its guests the kind of ambience and service that one would associate with a very well run international hotel.
Overview
A smallish 11 bed-roomed hotel, the House of Waine is known for its attention to detail, and for the design of its rooms, all of which are slightly different. Shared areas include a lounge, a dining room, terraces, a heated pool (complete with pavilion and outdoor bar) and a main bar.
The decor is somewhat traditional – beiges, browns, creams – but beautifully maintained, and helps create an atmosphere that is at once calm and private.
Food & service
The food is straightforward and tasty, while is service is friendly and efficient. Returning guests comment on the willingness of staff to assist with any and all queries.
Rooms
The rooms themselves are all en suite, 9 of which serve as either single, twin or double rooms. Simply – and sometimes incongruously – decorated, they are highly comfortable.
All but two of the rooms’ bathrooms possess a separate shower, and the marble finish, free standing baths and toilet accessories give a feeling of real luxury. Wi-Fi is free, and notably strong.
Activities
Activities at the House of Waine include visits to the Giraffe and Butterfly centres, Karen Blixen Museum, Karen Country club, Matbronze Art Gallery and Foundry, and to Nairobi National Park.
