While it’s located on the edge of town, a little way away from the main sights in Mek’ele, nowhere comes close to what’s on offer at the Axum. Rooms are comfortable, and the facilities are top notch; the health centre boasts spa treatments, a jacuzzi and an indoor pool.
FOOD AND SERVICE
Staff are friendly and well-trained, the restaurant food (including a continental buffet breakfast) is tasty, and the gardens are exquisetly maintained. Free satellite TV, Wi-Fi, laundry and dry cleaning are standard.
With 60 clean, spacious and well-furnished rooms, all with balconies, satellite TV and showers with gloriously dependable hot water, Axum Hotel is an excellent stay. Guests can choose from a single room, double, large twin, semi suite or suite.
If you’re planning on spending a few hours unwinding between excursions, the Axum has it covered. The 24 hour bar – offering classic cocktails and traditional Ethiopian liquors – is cosy, and there’s even a small gymnasium, sauna and steam bath to flex and soothe the muscles; essential after all those long treks around the Tigray capital.
