Another Belmond property, located in Chobe National Park, overlooking the now flowing Savuti Channel, Savute Elephant Camp is an excellent luxury lodge, the area’s herds of elephant a major pull factor.
Situated in a mixed belt of trees, a wood and tent build, Savute Elephant Channel consists of a main camp and 12 sleeping rooms. Raised, open sided and protected by canvas roofing, the main camp includes a bar, dining area, lounge and veranda. Characterised by polished wooden floors, slumber seating, lightweight camping chairs, sofas, armchairs and low lighting, everything is very smart. The bar, attended to by tall leather seated chairs, and backed by a wall of unfinished logs, is a real delight, and the dining room is equally fine. Other shared facilities include a swimming pool and boma. The food is excellent, meals are available inside or out, or in the privacy of one’s own room, and the service is fantastic, friendly, professional and discreet.
The sleeping accommodation at Savute Elephant Camp is something else. Discreetly spaced, overlooking the Savuti Channel, similarly raised on a wooden platform, each tent includes a double bed, a seating area, an enormous veranda and en suite bathroom. Like the main camp, the design here is smart, with well made dark wood furniture for side tables and storage facilities. A bed head doubles up as room divider, with case and travel paraphernalia storage space around the back. The en suite bathroom is large and contains indoor and outdoor showers, a twin basin and flush toilet. While the bed is divine, even it is overshadowed by the veranda, its table, chairs and hammock complimenting a beautiful space.
Activities at Savute Elephant Camp include game drives, bush picnics, bird watching and rock painting viewing.
