A short hour’s drive from Windhoek, Habitas Namibia is a wellness-focused camp set within a 51,000-hectare reserve overlooking acacia-dotted plains and scrubby rolling hills.
Overview
Part of the uber-cool hotel group under the same name, Habitas Namibia is one of those rare places that perfectly blend safari, wellness and culture. Solar-powered and decorated with locally sourced materials, the look and feel of Habitas is a balance of refined luxury and comfort. There is a large sundeck with sofas and comfy floor cushions, a fire pit, a library, a shared lounge with board games, and a small boutique with local crafts. WiFi is available in the main area.
Food & service
Habitas’s fresh, light menu local ingredients and is health-orientated without being too strict; think fresh fruit, cold meats and cheeses, light lunches of salads and spring rolls, and simple three-course dinners. Service is warm, relaxed but professional, and extremely detail-orientated.
Rooms
Rooms are large thick canvas tents with roll-up sides and spaciously scattered across the hilltop with panoramic views of the vast Namibian landscape. Interiors are stripped-back and designed with comfort in mind, mindfully decorated with local crafts and custom furnishings. There is a super king bed, a day bed, a writing desk and floor cushions. The large sundeck is a favourite spot to curl up with a book and watch the rock hyraxes scamper about.
Activities
Activities at Habitas focus on a daily schedule centred around six pillars: art and culture, wellness, adventure, learning, food, and music. This includes safari drives, animal tracking, star gazing, art workshops with local creatives, sunrise yoga, culinary masterclasses, guided sound bush meditations, and chilled Sunday camp concerts. The spa heads up a dreamy treatment menu that includes a body mask of red ochre and a Khoi herbal compress.
Impact
Community is central to the Habitas experience. The Habitas RISE initiative is working to help rewild and protect the reserve, which was a former hunting concession. They also provide hospitality training to locals and are committed to the upskilling of their own team, who belong to and represent communities and tribes from across Namibia.
